Knowlton (1922-1998) began skiing when he was seven years old and was captain of his high school ski team. While attending the University of New Hampshire, Knowlton won several skiing awards. He volunteered for the ski troops in 1942 and became a squad leader in the intelligence and reconnaissance platoon. Born in Oakland, CA. in 1913, Laurence "Larry" Jump was an instructor for the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale and received a number of military awards. He was responsible for forming Arapahoe Basin, Inc. ski resort in 1946 and later developed Arapahoe East. Jump also founded Lift Services, Inc. which serviced the Pomalift and Telecar lift systems which merged to create Mountain Lift. He married Marjorie (Marnie) Brown in 1948.
